Youth and farmers in Uganda are gaining valuable entrepreneurial skills and market and industry linkages through the ENABLE TAAT project in the East African country. The project recently registered 35 enterprises established in Mbarara, Kyotera, Ibanda, and Mukono, and consequently got 35 people employed. The project is collaborating with various stakeholders to empower young people to become successful entrepreneurs.
One of the youth beneficiaries, Kalyango Achilles, recently received a $1,385 grant from a Danish
Foundation to promote his organic fertilizer business, Maxima Organic Fertiliser Products. The grant helped him to buy supplies and equipment for the business. Sixty other young entrepreneurs got access to loans with the support of Equity Bank, to launch their businesses and contribute to the local economy. The Enable TAAT team is providing support and mentorship to the new ventures.
The businesses, focused on dairy production, goat fattening, swine production, poultry production, seed bulking, and crop production, are primed to contribute immensely to agricultural diversification and productivity in the regions. The successes of the young entrepreneurs will inspire other young people in the region to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
