In Benin, rabbit farming stands out as a popular choice for young livestock farmers. It’s easy to start, but many young entrepreneurs find it challenging to sustain. Feeding costs, intense competition, limited market access, and availability issues often drive them away from this venture.

To tackle these challenges, we launched a training program titled “Unveiling the Secrets of Rabbit Farming and Its Market.” Held from Wednesday, July 16 to Friday, July 19, 2024, at the IITA Benin Incubation Center, the training was designed to provide practical solutions and inspire long-term commitment to rabbit farming.

The program, structured with 25% theory and 75% practical sessions, educated over 150 young people on best practices for rabbit farming in Benin. Participants learned how to produce feed using local raw materials and discovered various market outlets. The training also highlighted numerous business opportunities along the rabbit value chain, aiming to establish a network of stakeholders to support production and marketing.

This initiative is a step towards fostering sustainable engagement in rabbit farming among young people by equipping them with essential skills and strengthening professional networks in this promising sector.
